Week 3: August 26-30, 2019

Quarter 1 is now in full swing!.. We are in our third full week and have 6 weeks to go....let's do this!  Be sure to organize your schedule to allow for a balanced approach to time management, leading to a successful outcome.  Administration and faculty have been so impressed with the smooth start, and are very excited, anticipating the best school year ever! Please review the updates and reminders below to keep our school productive and positive!

KISJ Theatre’s season 1:

The auditions will be held after school from the 28th of August to the 30th of August, 2019 in H202 (the drama room). Please fill out the audition form online. Contact Mr. Burnham (nburnham@kis.ac) for more details. 

Advance Placement (AP):

Honors and AP Policy: Please review our policy on transfer students taking Honors/AP classes at KISJ.

Payment for your AP Exams:

Ms. Lisa Moon in the Counseling office is sending an AP Letter to your parents followed by an invoice for the exam fees. Payments for AP Exams are accepted from August 26th until September 27th.  KISJ will collect the payment and forward it to College Board.  

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students cannot sign up for AP Classroom unless they are enrolled in the AP class at our school.  If a student is not registered for the AP class here at KISJ, the teacher cannot share the code. If you are self studying, when you enroll to take the exam, the testing center has the ability to register you as 'Exam-only' and you will get a code, but you WILL NOT have access to the materials on AP Classroom, you will just be registered for the exam.  

KISJ does not administer AP exams here for students not taking the course here: The College Board website has provided some links to help you find testing centers authorized by the AP Program in India, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Singapore

Student Counsel / STUCO:

Assemblies will be held Sept 4th, October 9th, November 13th, and December 11th in the PAC, starting at 8:20 AM.


The HSCc Club Fair is this Wednesday, August 28th from 3:45-4:25 in the HS Gymnasium 
Please take a moment to preview clubs that will be featured at the fair here
Club officers and sponsors should please report to the gym at 3:35pm, to take your seat at your table. As your peers arrive, be ready to field questions about initiatives from students who are interested to enroll in your club this year. There will be signage to orient you, with the seating chart made available to club sponsors prior to the event.  When the Club Fair finishes, officers should please help remove chairs and tables to help the space prepare for athletics practice.  
Following the Club Fair, Students will have the opportunity to sign up for clubs of their choice. This process will be handled through Forms. Once student choices for club affiliations have been confirmed, club activities will officially begin for the term. 

In order for clubs to become/remain active and sponsored, clubs must adhere to certain conditions (outlined within the slide deck). Please read through the slide deck to familiarize yourself with any changes in policy that will come into effect. Changes will help our Clubs program run more smoothly, and have been considered as the direct result of feedback provided last year. Thank you for your input!

As a reminder, active status of proposed clubs will require regular participation from 15+ students. Rosters for attendance will run through Power School this year. This will help track activity, as well as adherence to the Language Policy during club time. In efforts to keep clubs inclusive,  students should speak English as the connecting language to communicate. 

Please remember that you should actively enroll and fully participate in only 2 clubs. Narrowing focus will help amplify outcomes and support students to maintain a healthier balance between academic and co-curricular commitments, rather than character and performance becoming adversely impacted by overcommitting. 


On Wednesday October 16th, all G9 & G10 students will be taking the PSAT test.  This test is a valuable measure of your progress up to now, and will also be used as part of what determines your readiness for AP classes in G10 and G11.  While it does not require you to study, you will need to make sure that you get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. Take this test seriously!  It may not impact your grade, but it does have an impact on your future!

SSL / Service Opportunity in the Elementary School:
Interested in accruing service hours that are necessary for graduation without leaving campus? 
An opportunity has surfaced to help supervise recess in the ES from 12:00-12:30pm. Interested students will receive training, serve on a rotating schedule, and begin ASAP. This opportunity is ideal for students who have study hall immediately following lunch on certain days.

Dorm/Housing Reminders: 

Dorm Students are NOT allowed to return to the dorms to get homework, etc., during the day.  

According to the School and Dorm Life Guide 2019-2020, Day students must leave campus immediately at the end of the school day unless attending a school-sponsored event, require access to library services and/or are directly supervised by a school staff member. Day students may not attend dorm-sponsored and supervised activities. The main campus is closed on weekends unless the student is attending a school-sponsored event or directly supervised by a staff member.
